Monday, May 29

Catch a screening of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s HOLY BLOOD (SANTA SANGRE) (1989) at The Plaza Theater, screening through June 1! Garage rock it up with Deaf Poets, The Buzzards of Fuzz and Bleach Garden at 529! Swing on by Big Band Night featuring Joe Gransden and his amazing 17-member orchestra at Café 290 every first and third Monday of the month! Skye Paige, “Queen of Slide Guitar” rocks out at the Little Vinyl Lounge! Boogie on down to the Northside Tavern and spend an evening with Lola at her famous Monday Night Northside Jam! And blues on down to Fat Matt’s Rib Shack for a side of Dry White Toast and a plate full ‘o finger lickin’ BBQ!

Tuesday, May 30

The Atlanta Latin Jazz Orchestra gets down at Café 290! Hang with John Travolta and the Pink Ladies during the Northlake Festival Movie Tavern’s screening of Randal Kleiser’s GREASE (1978) during their Retro Cinema series at 7:30pm! Rock out with Cusses, Double Ferrari and Motherfucker at 529! Jam it up with Joe Gransden and his jazz jam session at Venkman’s every Tuesday! Make your way to Blind Willie’s for a night Steve Cunningham & Lilac Wine! The Star Bar delivers a night of retro shenanigans with their Downtown Tuesday Night Dance Party featuring retro-soul, funk, ‘80s, ‘90s and more! And as always, groove on down with Swami Gone Bananas at the Northside Tavern!

Wednesday, May 31

Psyche folk it up with Kikagaku Moyo, Al Lover and Suzanne Vines at The Earl! Get some classic soul ‘n’ funk with Nick & The Grooves at Avondale Towne Cinema! Hang with John Travolta and the Pink Ladies during the Northlake Festival Movie Tavern’s encore screening of Randal Kleiser’s GREASE (1978) during their Retro Cinema series at 7:30pm! Get down at City Winery with Roomful of Blues’ 50th Anniversary Tour! Stomp on down to The Vista Room for Bluegrass & Beyond! Make your way to the Studio Movie Grill’s (Alpharetta/Duluth) screening of Vincente Minnelli’s THE BAND WAGON (1953) at 7:15pm! Fat Matt’s Rib Shack dishes out a night of the blues with Frankie’s Blues Mission! Get the blues with the Cody Matlock Band at Blind Willie’s! Jazz it up at the Red Light Café with The Gordon Vernick Quartet! Or make your way to the Northside Tavern as Danny ‘Mudcat’ Dudeck fires it up with his rockin’ blues! St. James Live! delivers their Hump Days Blues night, getting classic blues-style every Wednesday! And as always, it’s Ladies Night at Johnny’s Hideaway which plays hits from Sinatra to Madonna for a generally mature crowd.

Thursday, June 1

Hilarity ensues with Cineprov at The Plaza Theater as they get intergalactic and riff Don Dohler’s GALAXY INVADER (1985) at 7:00pm! Spend the night with Tom Russell at Eddie’s Attic! Atlantic Station’s Movies in Central Park continues with a free screening of Jon Avnet’s FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (1992) at dusk! The Madrid Express keeps the music alive in memory of Kool Kat Col. Bruce Hampton at The Vista Room! Arrested Development gets down at City Winery! Make your way to the Red Light Café for a night with Truett, Dreambrother and Karen Kole! It’s Mai Tai Thursday, so hula on down to Trader Vic’s for a night of island tunes and tasty cocktails! The Northside Tavern gets rockin’ with a little Chicago/Delta blues of The Breeze Kings! Stagger on over to Noni’s Bar & Deli for their Bitter Heroes event featuring DJ Brian Parris as he gets charmingly morose with a little New-Wave, The Smiths and The Cure! Get the rockin’ blues with The Cazanovas at Blind Willie’s! Get your boogie on at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, as Chickenshack featuring Eddie Tigner, delivers some honky-tonk blues! And as always, boogie down at Mary’s, as the East Atlanta venue gets funky with their weekly Disco in the Village.

Friday, June 2

Get wickedly bizarre with Kool Kat Jeffrey Butzer (The Bicycle Eaters; The Compartmentalizationalists) and the “Ladies in the Radiator” at The Earl with his Club Silencio: Music From the Films of David Lynch (Keep your eyes peeled for our new interview with Buzter coming soon!) Make your way to Chastain Park for a night with Paul Simon! Jazz it up with two shows featuring Joe Gransden and special guest Annie Sellick at Eddie’s Attic! Eighties it up with Kool Kat Becky Cormier Finch and Denim Arcade at Suburban Tap (Marietta)! Get filled with tasty food and tunes at the two-day Candler Park Music & Food Fest, featuring Friday night tunes by Railroad Earth, Matisyahu, Ripe and Chelsea Shag! Get your Bond fix at The Plaza Theater’s screening of Lewis Gilbert’s THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (1977)! Get alt-rocked ‘90s style with Blue October at the Variety Playhouse! Arrested Development gets down for night two at City Winery! Venkman’s delivers a night with Rapture: The Ultimate Blondie Experience! Avant-garde it up at the High Museum’s First Friday: Warhol Factory Party event where you can experience “Andy Warhol: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family” before the exhibit opens to the public (June 3) and so much more! Get groovy with Swami Gone Bananas at the Northside Tavern! House Rocker Johnson & The Shadows dish out the blues at Blind Willie’s! Every first Wednesday is the Graveyard Tavern’s Graveyard Swing Night, featuring the swingin’ jazz and boogie-woogie sounds of the Savoy Kings!
